Description of the Fenix E28R V2.0 handheld flashlight:

Not all LED flashlights with high lighting characteristics have massive dimensions. This is proven by the Fenix E28R V2.0 model, which is an improved version of the brand's other flashlight, the E28R. Both lighting devices are included in the line of EDC lights and have compact dimensions, but the updated E28R V2.0 surpasses its predecessor in a number of key parameters.

In particular, the brightness of the light has increased by 13.3%, reaching the mark of 1700 lumens, which has caused an increase in the range of the beam to an exceptional 273 meters. It is noteworthy that the improvement of lighting indicators did not have a negative effect on the time of operation of the lantern. On the contrary, it increased by 253% and is now 260 hours (against only 73 hours 35 minutes in the base model).

The Luminus SST40 diode is responsible for the generation of light. The color temperature of the lighting is 6500K (cool white), so the beam can boast a longer range when compared to warm-hued light. The smooth metal reflector makes the beam concentrated, which is convenient for illuminating specific objects.

Operating modes

The E28R V2.0 flashlight is designed for daily use, so the manufacturer has taken into account various situations in which the user may need a pocket light source.

7 available modes are divided into 3 groups according to the type of lighting. In addition to 5 modes from group A with constant lighting and a standard stroboscope from group B, the interface includes the possibility of illuminating the control button (group C). With the help of the last mode, the user can quickly find a lantern, for example, in a dark room or in a tourist tent.

Keep in mind! The operating time indicated in the Turbo mode is calculated in the amount with the glow of the lantern in less bright modes according to the reduction of power. They are activated after the internal electronics are heated to 60°C and the overheating protection is activated. After the electronics have cooled down, Turbo mode can be used again.

Control features

Control is simple, as it is carried out by a single electronic switch located in the head of the structure.

Turning the light on / off: pressing the switch for 0.5 seconds.
Selecting a group of modes: the light by by default, it is activated in group A mode. Switching to group B occurs by pressing the button for 1.2 seconds. Leaving group B and returning to group A is done with a single click of the button. Group C is activated by pressing the button three times when the light is off. To exit group C, you need to press the switch, after which the light will turn off.
Selecting the mode from group A: pressing the button once when the light is on changes the modes in the order Eco → Low → Medium → High → Turbo.
Selecting the mode from group C: in the activated group C, pressing the button once allows you to switch between the backlight options (permanent red → solid green → red pulses → green pulses).

The Fenix E28R V2.0 has two useful options: the memory of the last mode, which works for all brightnesses from group A except Turbo, and the electronic lock, which is activated by pressing the button twice when the light is off.

Power supply

The model comes with a 18650 battery, branded ARB-L18 with a capacity of 3400 mAh. This is the most optimal power source, which ensures stable operation of the lantern at its maximum potential. An analog power source can be a single-use CR123A battery.

Charging the battery takes about 3 hours from the moment of connecting the USB cable to the Type-C port built into the head of the case.

During charging, the indicator in the control button lights up red, and after filling the capacity — green.

The indicator can also be activated manually to check the current battery status*. To do this, just press the switch once with the light off:

Green (steady): 100% - 85%;
Green (blinking): 85% - 50%;
Red (steady): 50% - 25%;
Red (blinking): 25% - 1%.

*Note. The color display works only with the branded battery ARB-L18.

Physical parameters

One of the advantages of the model is its dimensions: 121 mm (length) x 26.5 mm (head diameter) x 22.5 mm (tail diameter). Thanks to its small size and light weight of 128 grams, the lantern can be carried not only in a backpack, but also in a handbag to illuminate the road for safe movement at night. The detachable clip offers another wearing option — on your belt or in your clothing pocket.

The all-metal aluminum body is machined on a CNC machine and completed with a sealing ring that prevents moisture, grit and ordinary dust from entering the shell and disrupting the functionality of the electronics. Case protection standard — IP68, and impact resistance is 1 meter. Anodized aluminum coating provides protection against oxidation in case drops of acid or lubricant fall on the metal surface.

The functionality of the lantern is increased by a magnet built into the tail of the structure. It holds the body on a metal surface so that the user can perform repairs and other tasks with two hands.
