Grenade pouches “on display” often look the same, differing only in color. However, in real use, even the smallest details can turn into a serious problem. Practice shows that training and airsoft rarely reveal weak points that appear on the battlefield — wet sand, snow, low temperatures, dirty velcro, working with gloves, running with snags, etc. Every M-GEAR® grenade pouch has been designed and refined with real combat use in mind.
Grenade pouch: size and its critical importance
Many models seem interchangeable, but dimensions are a critical parameter. Some foreign pouches are designed for RGN grenades: if you try to fit an RGD-5 or F-1, the fuse assembly will stick out from under the flap. This is not only inconvenient but also unsafe – the flap does not fully cover the munition, leaving gaps for dirt and a high chance of accidental snagging.
What to consider when choosing the size:
- a grenade pouch must completely cover the munition, including the fuse;
- the flap must fit tightly without side “windows”;
- the internal space should not have excessive free volume, so the grenade does not “bounce” while running or maneuvering;
- compatibility with different types of grenades.
The M-GEAR® grenade pouch is designed considering the differences in size and form factor of common munitions – from RGN/RGO and RGD-5 to smoke grenades. The design ensures proper positioning and flap coverage without gaps, maintaining a balance between quick access and safety. WJ buckle flap – fast, reliable, and silent (when opened carefully). Cordura fabric – durable, abrasion-resistant, and weatherproof. Drainage grommet – made from stainless material. NIR treatment – makes the fabric invisible to night vision devices.
The grenade pouch is available in various military colors, including one of the most popular camouflage patterns – Multicam.
Which closure system is best for buying a grenade pouch
Old solutions – a buckle and stud with a leather strap – are almost no longer used: they are impractical, inconvenient with gloves, and unreliable in mud or frost. Modern systems have replaced them, each with its pros and cons:
- Grenade pouch with snap button. Advantages – very fast opening and munition retrieval. That’s about it, while the disadvantages are many. Small locking area – closing the pouch instantly in motion is problematic. The button holds until it contacts the environment – a branch or any protrusion can easily open the flap. The pressure is centered, leaving the side edges open – gaps allow water/dirt in or even let the munition slip out. No height adjustment – the pouch is designed for a single grenade size.
- Grenade pouch with velcro. Advantages – instant access to the munition, fast and reliable closure, adjustable flap height, which allows fitting different grenade shapes and sizes. However, with excessive overlap, side gaps may appear. Disadvantages – moisture, sand, and dirt reduce velcro performance, and in missions requiring silence, removing a grenade silently is almost impossible – the sound reveals your position.
- Grenade pouch with buckle (fastex). At present, this is the best solution and here’s why. Quick extraction and instant closure of the flap, the option of silent opening, no accidental opening from snags, and the strap can be tightened to secure smaller munitions inside.
