Pouches from M-GEAR® are a professional component of a fighter’s tactical gear system. Materials, attachment configuration, retention of contents, and access to necessary items — every element is thought through down to the smallest detail. All military pouches produced by us have been tested in real combat and have proven exceptional practicality and high build quality in the field:
- fast, convenient access to equipment;
- a high level of strength and wear resistance tailored for extreme operating conditions;
- each variant/model includes the complete set of functional features required for its role.
Types of tactical pouches
This type of equipment can be conditionally divided into two categories.
General-purpose army pouches
Here you’ll find both narrowly specialized models and more universal options for different use scenarios. In most cases, general-purpose pouches are not merely an “add-on to the ammunition load” but a working platform that supports combat effectiveness during and between phases of active operations. They store and carry all the small but critically important items — from a multitool and spare batteries/cells to markers, electrical tape, etc.
Structurally, such military pouches are designed for convenient arrangement of items inside the product and for rapid retrieval. Depending on the specific variant and model, a pouch may combine many different solutions:
- modular mounting systems;
- drainage grommets;
- rigid walls or reinforced panels;
- elastic straps, zippers and flaps with quiet hardware;
- organizer pockets, dividers, and so on.
In addition to types such as map sleeves, gas mask pouches, headset pouches, shovels, radio and GPS pouches, smartphone and tablet pouches, and administrative models (admin pouch), pouches can be purchased in the following types.
Sustainment pouches
A sustainment pouch is a compact, field-format mini-pack. The main idea is one large, “undivided” compartment that can easily hold a relatively bulky load. Some versions include flat pockets, mesh dividers or simple organizers, but the main functional part remains the primary compartment.
By purpose a sustainment pouch does not belong to any single line of gear, but it is often used on the second and third lines. It can carry a spare ammunition load, an extended medical kit, food, a gas mask, hats, masks, consumables and other items that should be on hand but do not need to be in immediate (speed) access like a magazine or a tourniquet.
Utility pouches
A utility pouch is a working, additional compartment on kit that holds all the small but necessary equipment. The lineup of such pouches is quite broad: models vary in size, geometry, attachment type, access to contents, horizontal or vertical orientation and internal layout. Therefore it’s not difficult to select a variant for a specific task — there are solutions for a minimal EDC set as well as for an expanded set of tools and hygiene items. Toiletry kits also fall into the category of utility pouches.
Military utility pouches are primarily used for personal hygiene items, small tools and an everyday essentials kit:
multitool, folding knife, flashlight, notebook and marker, spare batteries, cable/powerbank, gloves, a small first aid kit (not to be confused with an IFAK), etc. Inside there can be elastic retention straps, mesh pockets, flat dividers, and sometimes removable organizers or Velcro panels for interchangeable inserts.
Medical pouches
The speed and convenience of using an IFAK depend directly on the internal layout and the way the medical pouch is mounted/positioned. Several variants of this equipment can be distinguished:
- Horizontal medical pouches. The construction consists of a base rigidly attached to the kit and a removable first-aid pocket that is secured to the base with Velcro/quick-release buckles. This scheme allows the pouch to be positioned anywhere on the kit, pulled off with one hand and used directly at the casualty. Optimal contents — a compact first-line IFAK set.
- Vertical medical pouches. These open from the top or fold out partially/fully. The interior is a practical segmented organizer that allows medications to be arranged by priority. However, in confined conditions horizontal models are often more universal.
- Pocket mini-IFAKs. Compact, flat pouches that can be placed in a backpack, in the above models or even in a pocket. This is the basic “everyday” first aid kit: plasters, small ampoules/capsules, etc.
- Tourniquet pouches. Narrowly specialized “sleeves” for a tourniquet with open or semi-open access and rigid retention. Quality products must allow unobstructed one-hand extraction of the tourniquet, enable operation while wearing gloves, protect the tourniquet from loss during running or rapid intense maneuvers, and be mountable in the most convenient sector of the kit.
Bottle and canteen pouches
A bottle/canteen pouch is a specialized sleeve that secures a water container to the kit and provides quick access. The product can be made in two main form factors. Closed pouches for canteens/bottles: this format better protects the container from shocks and adverse external factors. Open pouches for bottles: retain the container using an elastic cord, strap or rigid frame. Protection of the contents is lower, but the second option is more universal as it allows carrying both compact and large bottles/canteens.
Tactical weapon pouches
This type of equipment is designed with rapid access to ammunition and magazines in mind.
Pouches for assault rifle magazines
Providing high-speed access and secure retention of magazines are the main tasks of these pouches:
- closed pouches for AK/AR magazines protect well from dirt and loss, but access to ammunition is slower than with other configurations;
- open pouches for AK/AR magazines — maximize speed when reloading;
- front assault panels for AK/AR magazines — in this case, in addition to an open base, an additional utility pouch may be provided.
Army grenade pouches
When choosing, it is extremely important to pay attention to the compatibility of the product with the munition by dimensions. For example, a number of imported pouches are designed for the RGN, and if you put an RGD-5 there the fuze may protrude from under the flap. So you should either buy a model strictly for your munition or a high-quality universal pouch with correct geometry in height, volume and retention.
Another critically important factor is the closure system of the grenade pouch. Three types can be distinguished:
- Snap (press stud) — quiet and fast extraction of the munition. However, it’s important to consider that there is a high risk of the flap catching on branches and other protruding elements during active movement, which can lead to loss of the grenade.
- Velcro — fast access and reliable retention, easy to adjust flap height. The downside is the noise when opening the pouch, which can easily reveal your position in tasks where concealment is critical.
- Fastex (quick-release buckle) — fast access to the ammunition, reliable retention, silent extraction. Currently one of the most universal and practical types of grenade pouch closures.
Military pouches for machine-gun ammo boxes
A pouch for a machine-gun ammo box protects the ammunition from dirt, moisture and other external factors. The pouch is designed to minimize loss of tempo when accessing ammunition.
Tactical pouches for pistol magazines
Compact holders for one or several magazines. Produced in two main formats: modular inserts and classic open pouches. They come single, double and less commonly triple. Due to similar cell dimensions other items can also be carried: a compact flashlight, pepper spray, bandage, multitool. A double pouch is particularly practical: one compartment for a magazine, the other for an additional “tool” for a specific task.
Dump bags
A dump bag is intended for carrying/storing empty magazines of small arms, enabling quick reloading. Although the primary use of the item is to “receive” empty magazines during active, high-rate fire, the bag often serves as a utility sack. It is temporarily used to carry grenades, water containers, spare magazines, consumables, compact medical kits, etc.
