Description of the Fenix LR60R handheld flashlight:
The power of a searchlight and the ergonomics of a handheld flashlight are combined in the Fenix LR60R model, which is designed for use in conditions where the user's comfort and sometimes the lives of other people depend on a bright light source.
The main purpose of this flashlight — illumination of near and far distances during search and rescue missions. The range of the light beam can reach 1085 meters at the maximum brightness, which is equal to 21000 lumens, which makes it easier to work when you are in complete darkness. Lighting with a concentrated beam can be used as a light guide, and a variety of variants with flood light acts as a guarantor of safety in another area — during extreme sports like rock climbing.
The lantern is also able to facilitate construction work. In this case, the variability of wearing / installing the lighting structure plays an important role, which can not only be held by the remote handle or worn on the shoulder strap (the listed accessories are included), but also mounted on a tripod, which provides high-quality illumination of a large area when the "spotlight" mode is activated.
Fenix LR60R is equipped with thirteen LEDs with a service life of up to 50 thousand hours: one Luminus SFT70 and twelve Lumileds SST40. The color temperature of the light is 6000K (cold beam), which means that the lantern shines much farther than analogues with warm spectrum light.
At the top of the structure there is an OLED display, which can be used to monitor key parameters: the current light power, the remaining operating time, and the amount of charge in the power cells.
Another interesting feature of the model — body design. It imitates a scorpion and did not remain unnoticed at the Red Dot Award 2023, taking the main prize of the competition.
Operation modes
The interface of the Fenix LR60R has collected an extended set of modes with far, close, combined and flashing light. There are 10 modes in total, which can be conditionally divided into 2 groups according to the purpose.
Search modes (long-range)
- Turbo*: 21000 lm – 294 267 cd – 1085 meters – 1 h 50 min;
- High: 3000 lm – 249 717 cd – 1000 meters – 3 h 45 min;
- Medium: 1000 lm – 92 184 cd – 607 meters – 10 h 40 min;
- Low: 300 lm – 27 123 cd – 330 meters – 24 h 20 min;
- Eco: 50 lm – 4371 cd – 132 meters – 113 h.
Camping modes (nearby)
- Turbo: 15000 lm – 30896 cd – 352 meters – 2 h 10 min;
- High: 6000 lm – 11,839 cd – 218 meters – 3 h;
- Medium: 2000 lm – 3949 cd – 126 meters – 5 h 25 min;
- SOS: 300 lm;
- Stroboscope: 9000 lm.
*These modes are combined, combining long-range and low light.
Important! When working at high brightness, the model accumulates a lot of heat. To avoid malfunctions of the internal electronics due to high temperatures, the lantern has an intelligent overheat protection that is activated whenever the temperature reaches 60°C and reduces the brightness. You can use the brightest modes again after the electronics have cooled down.
Another option that directly affects the brightness of the activated mode is the proximity sensor built into the flashlight. It automatically reduces the light output to minimum (Eco mode) if the light head is ≤60cm away from any object for more than 1 second. This is done to prevent materials from igniting as a result of being exposed to a powerful light beam.
The brightness of the lighting returns to the initial level when the distance between the lamp head and the nearest object is more than 60 cm for 1.2 seconds.
Control features
Despite the large number of operating modes, the control is characterized by simplicity — a mechanical rotary switch is responsible for this.
- Turning the light on / off: turning the switch in either direction activates the light. Returning the switch to the original position turns off the flashlight.
- Selecting a group of modes (search / camping): to switch to search modes, you need to turn the switch clockwise with the flashlight turned off. Turning the switch counterclockwise activates one of the camping modes.
- Mode selection: brightness in any of the groups is selected by rotating the switch step by step. In the search group, the modes change in the order: Eco → Low → Medium → High → Turbo. In the camping group, the modes are arranged in the following order: Medium → High → Turbo → SOS → Strobe.
Power source
The working voltage of the Fenix LR60R is 14.4 V. The model is powered by a replaceable block of 4 batteries with a capacity of 4000 mAh — proprietary batteries compatible only with this flashlight. Replacing the batteries from the kit with other li-ion analogues is not recommended, as this may cause the model to malfunction.
The USB Type-C charging port is located next to the OLED display, which automatically lights up when charging begins and displays the battery charge level. The flashlight supports the function of fast charging when using a charging adapter with a power of 45 W and above, so the whole process lasts no more than 1.5 hours.
In addition to the input port, the flashlight has a USB-A output port (20 W). This turns the lighting device into a portable Power Bank, which can be used to charge small appliances.
Physical parameters
The body is made of aluminum A6061-T6, so the lantern is not only bright, but also wear-resistant. The metal is not afraid of direct mechanical impact and falls from a meter height, and the anodized layer increases its corrosion resistance.
Taking into account the extreme power, many heat-dissipating ribs are made in the head of the structure. The working temperature range of the lantern starts from -30°C and ends at 45°C. Protection against clogging and moisture is also provided by the manufacturer — it reaches the IP68 standard with the ability to work for 4 hours even in water at a depth of 2 meters.
The dimensions of the body are as follows: 208 mm (length) x 91 mm (head diameter) x 62.5 mm (tail diameter). The flashlight weighs 1,500 grams including the battery pack.
